GitHub was founded in 2008 by Chris Wanstrath, PJ Hyett, Tom Preston-Werner, and Scott Chacon to make it easier for developers to work together, to solve challenging problems and to create the world’s most important technologies. The company employs over 1000 people, of which 30 per cent work remote. In 2018 GitHub was acquired by Microsoft.
